The GistWhat is this about?
XENOM Inc raises $15M. Aims at the CrossFit crowd 🏃🏼 The hybrid racing scene is getting busy. For years, competitive functional fitness lacked standardization. Each year, The CrossFit Games change the workouts (with some repeats). This was a core part of their stated philosophy: "CONSTANTLY VARIED, high-intensity, functional movement" Then HYROX came along with a standardized format that is, for many, part of the appeal. XENOM is now positioning itself as the “Decathlon of Fitness”. A fixed, repeatable global competition format. In “the world’s most iconic venues” and stadiums. With the ‘decathlon’ a nod to their 10 fixed events and scoring system. Here’s what they’re building: 💰 $500 entry fee (early bird) 👥 $950 entry fee for doubles 🏋🏼‍♂️ 10 fixed events across 2 days 🧑🏼‍🤝‍🧑🏼 Up to 2,000 athletes per event 🤝 Rogue Fitness as equipment partner 🌍 11 events in Year 1, targeting 60 globally 📊 Standardised scoring and global benchmarking 🏟 Launch venues include Dallas, London, Miami, Paris The early workouts have been released. They’re pretty brutal and — with the snatch — they’re leaning into high-skill movements, a la Crossfit. 🏃 3K run straight into 2K SkiErg 🏋🏼‍♂️ 1RM snatch under time pressure 🔥 60-second max calories on the Echo Bike 🤸 Short, sharp ‘For Time’ workouts capped at 7 minutes You can compete solo, or in same sex pairs. With three levels of difficulty: Compete, RX and Elite. As founder Keith Barlow put it: “We see an opportunity to build a global competition… with a permanent benchmark.” XENOM is backed by serious money and names: 💰 $15M seed round 🎬 DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg 📦 ex-Dropbox CFO Sujay Jaswa And their ambition is big: ➡️ Build a global, standardised fitness competition ➡️ Create a spectator and media product ➡️ Potential long-term Olympic pathway HYROX have also stated Olympic ambitions, but whilst there could one day be some kind of ‘obstacle course racing’ or ‘hybrid racing’, any Olympic version would require neutral, non-branded formats. It’ll be interesting to see how the CrossFit crowd warm to XENOM. Early feedback has been mixed, with some commenting that the standardization takes away from the CrossFit ethos. And at $500 to compete (this is early bird - price will go up), the expectations will be big for a well-organized and spectacular experience. Will the next 1–2 years see an explosion in events like HYROX and XENOM? 👉🏼 Follow Jack Thomas and The Fit Guide for fitness industry insights and news
